The Universitas Indonesia is a combination of the University of Indonesia College Hall and Universiteit van Indonesie. At first, economics education was still a socio economic major at the Faculty of Law and Public Sciences. But not long after UI was founded, the Ministry of Education and Culture decided to open a Faculty of Economics to answer their own needs. Unlike several other faculties such as the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering or Faculty of Law at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) which came from several high schools that had been established by the Dutch East Indies government since the 1920s, the embryo of FEUI only appeared after the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence. FEUI was born when the Republic of Indonesia was only five years old, so it's not surprising that the birth of FEUI was still surrounded by strong nuances of Indonesia which had just become independent. To answer the demands that arose during the early days of independence and it was felt that there was a need for a higher education institution that could produce economics and company management experts to build an Indonesia that had just been freed from colonialism, FE UI was founded.

Since the beginning of the 17th century, the Governor of the Dutch East Indies - Adriaan Valckenier, had eyed the Ancol area, as an attractive tourist destination with great potential to be developed.

However, due to the Government's focus, which at that time was still on the War of Independence, the development of Ancol's tourism potential was neglected. Over time, Ancol again received attention from the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, where at the end of December 1965, he ordered and appointed the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Dr. H. Soemarno Sosroatmodjo became the Executive for the Development and Development of the Ancol Region to develop Ancol as a tourist destination. The development of the Ancol project continued until 1966 and under the leadership of the Governor of DKI Jakarta - Ali Sadikin, all work on the entire Ancol project was transferred to the Ancol Project Development Executing Agency (BPP) which later became the forerunner to the establishment of  PT Pembangunan Jaya.
